Republicans have long blamed crime on Democrat-run cities, and now (MTG-run) Kevin McCarthy’s Congress is trying to meddle in local politics in Washington DC with a bill that would dictate punishment for crime. But in fiery remarks on the floor yesterday, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D–MD) reminded us which city has the most crime: Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s Bakersfield, Calif.
“It turns out that Bakersfield, California, has the highest crime rate in America, was recently described as one of the top 10 deadliest cities in America for its size, and has a higher crime rate than Washington, D.C.,” he said (see video below). “And yet we’re going to take this opportunity to kick people around in Washington DC?”
Never mincing a word, he then went on to dish out “fictitious, bogus, bogus allegations” against the MAGA lawmakers. real Patriots — the D.C. residents who work for the Capitol and the D.C. police — who fought to protect them on Jan. 6, summed up his statements by describing how the Republican House “indulges Donald Trump’s stupidity and fantasy and pathologies.” “Kick around the people of Washington DC, who saved us that day, as patriots [Jan. 6]”
And in Ruskin’s closing remarks, he holds up a mirror to the hypocritical MAGA House in the most satisfying way:
