According to NBC News, Marjorie Taylor Greene is eyeing Donald Trump’s 2024 ticket in hopes of getting second billing. And as far as speculation goes, it’s nothing surprising or far-fetched. His “whole vision is to be vice president,” a Trump-connected source told the network, who thought he would be on Trump’s short list.
And Steve Bannon seems to agree, for what it’s worth, saying, “He sees himself on Trump’s VP short list. Paraphrasing Cokie Roberts, when MTG looks in the mirror he sees a potential president smiling.”
Thus the lane-change, moving away from BFF Matt Getz and his MAGA chums to a more comfortable “establishment wing” that includes Kevin McCarthy, all through a further merge makeover.
From NBC News:
That goal is at the heart of Green’s recent efforts to reposition himself as a politician who can bridge the divide between the party’s hard-liners and its establishment wing, sources told NBC News.
It also helps explain why he helped elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., speaker of the House after the midterm elections and served on two committees — Homeland Security and Oversight and Accountability — where he could participate in the upper-division. Profile investigation of President Joe Biden’s administration. McCarthy also tapped him to be part of a panel investigating how the government handled the COVID-19 pandemic. …
“He was both strategic and disciplined – he made a strong move, knowing it would be tough against his most enthusiastic crew,” he said. “He was willing to take the heat/hate short-term for the long-term goal of being a player.”
Trump has not publicly indicated that he is seriously considering a vice-presidential pick this early in the process, and aides did not respond to inquiries from NBC News about the possibility of Greene ending up on Trump’s ticket.
